A CARETAKER has asked for help to catch the ‘idiots’ who keep targeting his school’s glass frontage with an air gun.

St Silas C of E Primary School in Blackburn has had its windows smashed seven times in the last year, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Police have released CCTV images following the latest incidents last week, which happened outside of school hours.

They show a red car, believed to be a Ford Focus, driving down St Silas Road before one of the occupants fires shots from the passenger window.

John Danson, the site supervisor at the school, said: “We have spent a fortune trying to do the school up and make it nicer around here.

“It’s a big glass frontage that looks really good, but someone has taken it upon themselves to start smashing the windows. It’s appalling really.

“It costs £500 every time we have to replace one, but we don’t know what we can do to stop it.

“They are taking money away from children at the school because we only have a certain budget, and things will have to be cut back if it keeps happening.

“It must be someone from around this area that’s doing it, so if you know who it is then please come in and tell the school or call the police.

“It’s obviously not good for the children to see the windows broken. This is a nice school and it’s just being ruined by the mindless idiots.”

Mr Danson said air gun pellets had been found amongst the smashed glass.

PC Ahmed Desai, community beat manager for Corporation Park and Revidge, said: “In total, there have been seven similar incidents since April last year and we are investigating the possibility that the same people could be responsible.

“We have released some CCTV images of a vehicle that we believe may be involved and I would urge anyone with any information about who could be responsible to come forward.”

Headteacher Hillary Hinchliff said: “The damage to the windows will not only have a financial impact on the school but a negative impact on the children too.

“I would like to reiterate the police’s appeal for anyone with any information about any of these incidents to come forward.”

The CCTV images have come from cameras along the road, but the school has now also installed cameras to prevent any further incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to call police in Blackburn on 101, quoting log number LC-20130425-0224.
