Gigg Lane: Bury FC will go bust unless they get £1 million

BURY Football Club will go out of business in days unless they get £1 million of investment.

That is the stark message from chairman Brian Fenton as he pleads for funds from local businesses.

The directors have put an SOS plan together to save the club and are appealing for help.

“At this moment in time the situation is now critical - we are quickly running out of money by trying short-term fixes that are not working long term,” said Fenton, in a statement.

He added: “The club desperately needs £1 million of external investment to secure the long-term future of the club.

“Without this investment the club will cease to trade and there will be no more professional football played at Gigg Lane.

“We are looking for a number of people, local businessmen or women to join a consortium and invest £100,000 each, with a guaranteed payback.”

Are the board trying to scare the livingdaylights of our fans with this sensational headline?.

In 2002 we went in to administration with similar debts yet a CVA was agreed and the club survived.

Why has this bad financial situation been alowd to snowball out of control.

Don't you think that these Director/Chairman numpties should have been more transparent about the club's debt earlier to allow for a rescue package to be put together?.

Like i said earlier on another thread the people on the board run our once proud club like a Church jumble sale.

It's because these idiots are still on board that our club finds itself in such a dire situation.

If the club goes out of business then there won't be anymore disappointments from losing week in week out like we have had to stomach all season.

Like Chester City or Afc Chester as they are today the supporters might reform a new Bury fc from the ashes of the old one.

Unfortunately i fear other clubs will suffer a similar financial meltdown in the coming months/years die to the way football is heading.

I wouldn't hold your breath fans for a shining knight it aint going to happen.

The club will have to go in to administration and manage the debt or sell the ground and ground share with another club.

But no business would be interested in investing in a club with a hapless bungler like Brian Fenton as Chairman. To attract investors Fenton must first bfall on his sword otherwise the club is truly doomed. Why is the bungler surprised that the short termist panic measures he implemented have made the situation worse.A significant proportion of next seasons income has already been spoken for thanks to th board's gross stupidity.I understand that there is still a chance that former directors, far more competent than the present bunch, may yet be attracted back but nt while Fenton is stiil around.

Anyone up for a protest or a more serious matter how about we force the club to sell to the fans, get back to reality and pay players on performance and what there actually worth. Get back to bringing the youth players through and starting again. If we go down to the conference to come back stronger so be it but as things stand we're another Stockport or worse in the making. Administration after this season sends us down anyway do we need to buck up quick, also worth noting that our school of excellence is a shambles and not worth keeping in its current state. The whole club needs structure and a plan and that means no Fenton and Co a manager who is long term and believes in what he and the club are doing and doesn't moan about wage bills at every press interview. Finally look at Aston Villa and there kids and Crewe lower down it can work we can make it work.

I trust you support another football club otherwise you wouldn't be making them on this site.

If Bury fc fold it will be a catalist for other clubs to go the same way.

I still believe that the directors are just scaremongering us faithful supporters.

In reality Fenton & Co gambled on us staying up by foolishly allowing the then manager Richie Barker to do pretty much what he pleased with regard to players terms/contracts.

I just hope the chairman's business suffers in the same way, that will be a reality check for him.

Time to go Brian and take your mates with you I will be calling the club and suggesting this directly. You didn't even have a clue who to appoint as manager when Barker went do gates are down because of you incompetence. Good luck for the future but your not wanted here anymore.

If you can't manage a private company join the Bury F.C. Board take the clubs money and do what you want with it.
How many more egotistical liars and losers are we the diehard supporters going to have to put up with?
All contributors to these comments have got it spot on; our directors and management couldn't run a tap.
Bury FC is the towns club, it belongs to the people of the town (in more ways than one for the rest of this season only), we have been badly and sadly let down time and time again by the directors and management of our club, we don't feel sorry for ourselves we just feel bitter that money is no object when it comes to wages for all and sundry at the club. I will support this, my, club as long as it is in existence, I hope that's until I pop my clogs but we need a 100%, and I mean total clear out this summer, let's have a fresh start, with leaders who have smart thinking business sense coupled with a passion for running our club successfully, eg by making a better job of advertising and reporting what's going on, improving and selling the clubs facilities, more attractive and practical offers on ticket prices. Get the people down to support the team of the town, the true supporters will cough up if they can but there isn't always spare cash in our pockets to pay for the mismanagement of the club. Concentrate in getting the "lost" supporters back, £10 a game, not "we will greatly reduce the price for the next game by £2!" and it still cost £19. That's 3 hours work before tax for me.
I'd better stop there, but a message to the people of our town and supporters of our club let's get down there in big numbers and loud voices to support the club on Saturday after all it is a local derby against relegation rivals.

Can't blame the big two for this, they have always been there and for very little extra cost you get to watch some of the best players in the world. I think the problems go back years and years, we sold Nugent with a sell on clause did we get the million we were due ? Did we get anymore for Lowe, do we keep going down the Liam route or actually try and develop players and sell them on like Nugent. We could go on forever but lets be honest I would want these directors to get hold if anymore money for fear of wasting it on semi retired players.

I wonder what it will feel like when I look out of my window and don't seen mountains of people walking past with their Bury FC scarves on? Or not hearing the crowd shouting from the stadium?

Speaking as one of the 'lost' supporters I've simply been priced out of the market.

I spent alot of money following them home and away from my early teens to late twenties but haven't been for 3 seasons now.

It's quite simple that the product on offer doesn't remotely match the cost. Having realistic ticket pricing brings in extra fans who then in turn spend hard earned money on pies and merchandise which brings in extra revenue to support the shortfall lost on not selling tickets at extortionate prices.

I've now got 2 sons and a daughter who all sadly should of had bury in their blood. So not only have they lost me but they've lost another 3 on top who no doubt would of all wanted kits and scarves not to mention taking down to gigg every other week.

I'm just an average joe bloggs earning an average wage and while I might be able to afford to go I just can't justify at those prices anymore.

It would be sad to see the club go under but at the end of the day they alienated and forgot about the most important assets they had, the fans.

Still got an iq of an 8 year old and like a bad smell lingers on this site.

Nobody is bothered what this chinless wonder has to say.

Just hoping Scunny join us in league 2 next season.

Not to worry, you can chant about seeing Dale fans "cry on the telly" after the Stockport loss at Wembley or maybe your fa cup wins will clear the debt? Good riddance to a horrible club supported by poisonous, deluded individuals. I'm sure Alan Knill's daughter is shedding a year as we speak.[/p][/quote]The ignorant moron can't even spell and spews out all of his/her venom with meaningless comments. Well said Eileen. I so hope this money can be raised, have a full clear out of board and overpaid players. Start afresh with plenty of up and coming local youth players and drop the gate prices and see many more coming to see my beloved Bury FC. First things first though - money.

Not half as funny as your troll like inane comments Lolz08.

Better get down to Glanford park Boyo your club needs your support now.

By the way this Lolz08 is Eddie Murphy from "THIS IS SCUNTHORPE" site.me thinks.

Ryan and Lever123 - I agree with your comments. I have 2 children but we can't afford to come to all games as a family.

ShakenCity, great names to add. What about Bob Stokoe (first time around as player and manager); Peter Swan, Jimmy Mcllraith and of course John Hulme. The only player I have ever seen who wore a cravat whilst playing football. Great times... And how did Brian Williams have such a big beard at the age of 16?
Alan Suddick, Ken Beamish, Dave Gregory....
If we had half the commitment and skill in the present squad as the people mentioned above, we would be flying in this league...
