Disabled woman robbed by youths

A WOMAN with cerebral palsy was robbed as she walked under a motorway bridge in Farnworth.

The 51-year-old was walking home along Loxham Street, Moses Gate, in the direction of Manchester Road at about 11.40am on Tuesday, March 5, when she was attacked.

As she walked under the motorway bridge, she was approached by three boys who demanded she gave them money.

When she told them she did not have any, the boys restrained her by her wrists and again demanded money.

The boys were disturbed by a passerby and they fled empty-handed.

The boys are were Asian, in their early teens, wore dark hooded tops, baseball caps and had their faces covered.

PC Chris Woodburn, from Bolton police, said: "We believe the boys have deliberately waited until the victim has been under the bridge and out of sight from potential witnesses before targeting her.

"Fortunately, a passer by disturbed them and they ran off.

"Although the victim was not hurt, she did not know what would happen to her and has been left shaken.

"Due to the location of the incident, there may not be many witnesses but I would ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious, paticularly the man who disturbed the group, to contact us."

if they had been white youths we would have been blaming the gypsys or whatever they are ,i do hope the lady is ok and which i doubt the scum is caught and punished accordingly

Would Asian scum robe their own? No? Then she was targetted for racial reasons. Find them. Shame them. Punish them.

I have just started watching the programme's "People Like Us" and "Shameless", living in Farnworth I wanted to see how the upper classes live. I certainly wont be letting my kids buy a house and raise a family around here, its grim!

When I was 10 my mother found out that I'd been involved in a petty theft. She gave me a **** good hiding and dragged me screaming to the police station to 'confess' my crimes. A large and forbidding copper took me into a room and gave me a stern talking to which made my mum cry (that was the worst bit for me) and I have lived a crime free life for the last 40 years. The point is that a lot of children these days are simply unafraid of the consequences of their bad behaviour or their crimes. Their parents aren't looking out for the signs of trouble or asking questions of their children. I guess a lot of parents don't actually care what their kids are doing just so long as they don't bring any trouble home with them. A lot of parents need to take a more proactive stance and get actively involved with what their children are doing when they go out on the streets. A gang of young teenage boys going around mugging anyone is bad enough but when their victim is a disabled person it really is a terribly vile crime. If the boys get away with it this time, what kind of crime will they gravitate to in the future?

Why before you know it this scum will grow up to sell ice cream for cash,drive taxis for cash,run corner shops for cash and all other manner of cash work associated with a non contributary residency.

The poor lady, what a horrible experience. Doubtful that these lads will be caught, mores the pity. Gutless cowards three of them attacking a disabled lady. Too cowardly to attack someone who might be able to fight back. Hope she feels better soon.

I am perturbed by the thought that this was a racially motivated crime which escalates its severity beyond the subhuman act that it already is. I am surprised that the BN hasn't taken the opportunity to speculate in this manner so that the Asian community can root out these racists and denounce their satanic behaviour.

Absolutely. It's GMP, who don't know their own fiefdom.

A mugging in Leigh is described as taking place in Wigan; J4 of the M61 is also frequently described as being in Farnworth; I've even heard of an accident on the M61 "near Little Lever", which willcome as something of a surpirse to the people who live there.

"Disabled woman robbed by youths"? Could the "journalist" that wrote this piece define the word "robbed", please. The "writer" states that "The boys were disturbed by a passerby and they fled empty-handed." This suggests that the lady wasn't robbed at all. Please clarify, I'm losing what little faith I ever had in the journalistic merit of The Bolton News.
