300 jobs offered at new Accrington call centre

A MAJOR recruitment drive to fill 300 call centre jobs has been launched by telecoms giant BT.

The firm is opening a new customer contact centre at Accrington's Globe Centre on St James Street later this month.

The move follows talks with Lancashire County Council.

Peter Hardy, a team leader who is overseeing the rec-ruitment drive with special ‘bring your friend to work’ events and open days, said further expansion and even more jobs could be created in the future.

He said: “There’s a lot of focus on Accrington at the moment and I can only see it getting bigger and bigger.

“We are really keen to show jobseekers in the area what we have to offer and are holding special events and have made videos explaining what working here is all about.

“There are many different types of job roles so we want to get that across.

“It’s a very young, vibrant call centre.

“I absolutely love working here and being in charge of this recruitment drive is also an amazing opportunity.

“What we want is to get something out of this both for BT, and for the local comm-unity.”

Mike Damms, chief executive of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, said the recruitment drive was excellent news. He said: “It’s obviously a wonderful thing for the area that BT is holding this recruitment drive.

“BT is an excellent company which looks after its people and trains them well.

“They are well-paying jobs, stable jobs and just what we need in this part of the world.

“Having this type of company here also attracts other similar companies to set up nearby.

“So full marks all around, it’s brilliant news.”

In November 2011, US-based outsourcing company Sitel closed its call centre in the Globe Centre with the loss of 250 jobs.

The above is comment is a joke ,they were a excellent company in the past , now they treat you like a number and are very target driven , if you so much as say anything they think is negative, you will be on a pip and your monitored all the time until they decide to take you off the plan , Performance improvement plan , ask about these at your interview . if you dont improve they will get rid of you , you can easily be put on one of these plans beware .

The jobs that are on offer are NOT full time with BT people shall be working for the agency & nothing else. If you think you shall be getting good working conditions i would be asking this question whats the start time & finish time you may be on flexi time. meaning you shall get shifts at peak times & nothing else. BT used to be a great company then they decided that the way to go for corporate business was the USA system everybody on contract. & that shows when they do the annual APR.(Annual performance review)
