Two assaulted at Metrolink

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two assaults at the Metrolink in Bury.

At around 5.45pm on Tuesday, February 26, a Metrolink Inspector was performing his duties at the Radcliffe station on the Manchester bound platform when he was approached by three teenagers.

They were abusive towards him and one of them spat in his face before they ran away. It is then believed they assaulted a member of the public at the station before leaving.

Two of the offenders are described as being white, in their mid to late teens and of small build. One of them was wearing a black beanie hat, black bandana, grey sweatshirt and grey tracksuit bottoms.

The second had a square face and light brown hair. He wore a grey tracksuit top with blue hood and matching tracksuit bottoms.

Police Constable Harrison White based at Bury Police Station, said: “The three offenders showed extreme verbal aggression towards the victim and compounded this by spitting in his face. "We also believe a short time later, a member of the public was viciously assaulted although this person has not reported it to police.

“I would ask the victim to come forward and contact us as you may have vital information that will enable us to bring these offenders to justice. "I would also ask anyone else who may have witnessed the two incidents to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8127 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

These scallys are always hard as nails when the odds are stacked in their favour (3 against 1), total cowards in real life without their mates.

Really hope the other victim comes forward and these pieces of scum are caught and made an example of....our streets will be a much better place without them.

Really not surprised having travelled on metrolink most stations are deserted and ripe for these type of people. There needs to be more of a visible presence at all stations which will protect staff and paasengers will not be vunerable as they must feel at times.Time to do away with automatic ticket machines and have staff and security personal at all stops. It will mean employing more people but what comes first profit or peoples safety?

What no CCTV? It's everywhere else. Surely if there was anywhere that needed comprehensive CCTV it is railway and bus stations.

It's nearly every week these days that something horrible happens involving the Metrolink, surely those in authority have noticed this trend too! People should feel safe on it or there's no way public transport will ever tempt folk from their cars.

The sad thing is that you'd almost accept these things with a roll of your eyes if they were happening late on a friday or saturday night, but they're in broad daylight!

SORT IT OUT.

All stations and trams need security on them at all times so that people feel safe.It will mean less profit with more people needing to be employed but as a public service making money should not be an issue.
