Road closed for town centre improvements

A ROAD in Bolton town centre will close from today as part of a £500,000 improvement scheme.

Work is being carried out to open Blackhorse Street to two-way traffic and improve the flow of traffic around the town centre.

Blackhorse Street, from Morrisons to Great Moor Street, will be closed for three weeks while Bolton Council and utility companies complete the work.

Traffic will be diverted along Moor Lane and Ormrod Street and motorists are warned that delays are likely.

Access to Morrisons will not be affected.

Council bosses say the work is the latest part of a scheme to improve traffic flow and reduce public transport journey times.

Is this the same council that as just spent thousands of pounds altering the road from Deansgate to Great Moor Street making Moorlane open only to oneway traffic unless you are a taxi or bus going in the direction of Great Moor Street. All other traffic are now forced to go all the way around the Cresent how long before money has to be spent repairing the cobbles damaged by all the extra traffic. Was this also done to improve traffic flow?

Your Moor Lane is Blackhorse St.

I think most people, now BH St is one way, use Moor Lane and Ormrod St, yes?

I fully understand the need to do this but that won't stop the irate drivers in the traffic jams from sounding their horns in displeasure at the hold-ups

Its because Cliff Morriss looks at buses and trains with nostalgae.
Mainly because most of the assests first and arriva use in Bolton are as old as he is.
No wonder the only people on public transport are the none fare paying pensioners.

Bolton council should be radical and go with the dutch system of opening towns up to cars remove all road markings and reduce to 20 mph.

free 30 min parking everyehere.

I would rather let the local circus design the roads in Bolton rather than anyone in Bolton Council.

They built that huge college on Deane road which is wide enough for at least 4 lanes but no they made a 15ft pavement , and a cycle lane so when people are being dropped off for college there is nowhere for people to pull in !

If you drive around the side of Grovensor casino onto Deane road it merges into a single lane ! all they needed to do was make the pavement 1ft narrower and this would solve the build up of traffic for people wanting to go to Trinity Park.

As for parking it should be free for up to 1 hour. I would rather drive to the Trafford and park for free than pay to go into a town where all the shops are shutting.

Thats right Bolton Council you make millions from parking tickets so lets hike the prices up and cash in !

This town dosen't need any more half baked road improvement schemes. Nor any more traffic lights, one way schemes, bus lanes, chicanes, pavement build outs, painted roads or any other ideas this council come up with.
What we do need are, road repairs so we are not dodging potholes, bus lanes removing where a vehicle turning right forces the traffic (illegaly) into the bus lane and most importantly FIND SOMEONE WITH AT LEAST HALF A CLUE to set the phasing and timing of traffic lights

Bolton Council are officially really rubbish at making decisions. even for the most ardent Labour supporters...
I cannot understand Labour anymore, could never stand the Tory ethic...
so, like many 20 - 40 year olds, we either go Socialist or UKIP...
