Jealous dad attacked man in his home

A FATHER launched an attack on a man he thought was in a relationship with the mother of his children.

Peter Goulding, aged 32, of Wingates Grove, Westhoughton, forced his way into Neil Vickers’ home because he believed he had started a relationship with Joanne Ward.

Goulding had been in a longterm relationship with her, Bolton Crown Court heard.

The court was told Goulding asked Ms Ward if their relationship was going to be rekindled after they broke up several months earlier.

She said No, denied being with Mr Vickers but said they were “close”, the court heard.

Guy Mathieson, prosecuting, said Goulding went to Mr Vickers’ home on December 10 and started banging and shouting before getting in.

Goulding went to the top of the stairs and pushed and headbutted Vickers. He remained there for about 20 minutes, pacing around and assaulting Mr Vickers.

He punched a door and would not allow Mr Vickers to leave the house. Mr Mathieson said: “Goulding said Mr Vickers had ruined his life and his kids’ lives.”

Mr Vickers suffered a 2cm cut close to his eye, which had to be glued together.

Daniel Prowse, defending, said Goulding admitted causing criminal damage and actual bodily harm. He said he was currently unable to work due to an industrial injury to his back.

Judge Timothy Clayson told Goulding: “This must have been a frightening experience for him. You violated him in the safety of his own home.”

Goulding was sentenced to 14 months jail, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £350 compensation and a £100 surcharge
