I never remember schools closing when I was young and yes it did snow back then. It's all the fault of the hi-viz, elf and safety brigade and a litigious society.

People need to get on with it. It's a bit of snow not a tsunami.

Well written, Babbar.
In the 1980s and 1990s there was snow, as we all know and remember. We just got on with in then.
The elf and safety lot have a lot to answer to.

I think it's more than health and safety; it's all about litigation. In our ambulance-chaser culture of the 21st century, councils and other organisations are petrified of the no-win-no-fee lot (who prey on the general population) coming along with a kid in a neck brace and a claim for compensation. Financially safer (not necessarily physically safer) to close the school.
