Heston in Darwen
TV Chef Heston Blumenthal’s day filming in Darwen will be screened in the coming weeks, as episode one of Heston’s Fantastical Food begins on Tuesday on Channel 4.
The popular celebrity with an unusual take on a number of British classics visited the town in July as part of the series.
During the day he hosted the world’s biggest tea party, serving tea from an enormous teapot that was accompanied by giant chocolate biscuits.
The day saw thousands of people pile into the Market Square to take a look at the celebrity and to sample some of the treats on offer.
Mr Blumenthal told the Radio Times that he chose Darwen as it was at the heart of the industrial revolution, when tea breaks were an integral part of everyday life.
He said: “In Darwen, one of the centres of the industrial revolution, there are no factories any more.
“But there are people who worked in those factories who remember the benefit of the tea break.
“We wanted the whole town to have one, so we tried to do a tea break with the largest teabag and teapot in the world.”
The series also features a huge ice cream, a massive full English breakfast and over-sized confectionery.
