Police have released CCTV images of two Bolton Wanderers fans they want to speak to in connection with violence at a Spanish football ground.

The images were taken after Wanderers' UEFA cup clash with Atletico Madrid at the Vincente Calderón stadium.

Dozens of travelling fans were beaten by baton-wielding riot police before, during and after the match on Thursday, February 21.

Whites officials later described their actions as "over-zealous".

After the match a number of Bolton fans started to damage the stadium.

They broke the backs off seats and threw them at the Madrid fans below.

Many involved in the disorder have been traced but the two men pictured are still outstanding.

Chief Superintendent Dave Lea, head of Bolton Police, said: "I know only too well how the events in Madrid developed and vividly remember the violent scenes that followed.

"In recent years, UK policing has worked tirelessly to remove the minority of people who cause trouble from football altogether.

"It is therefore absolutely right that when officers discover evidence of our own supporters who appear to be involved in such scenes that we take appropriate action to track these people down."

He added: "Their behaviour gives English football fans a bad name and is just plain hooliganism.

"They are a disgrace to the vast majority of peaceful and genuine fans who simply wanted to enjoy the game."

"When we track these two men down - and please be assured we will - they will subject to football banning orders. This simply means they will never get to attend football matches, home or abroad, again."

In March Bolton Wanderers learned that they had been fined £5,000 following the trouble.

Atletico Madrid was fined £15,000 for the involvement of their fans.
