Meite's Reebok time looks to be over

Reluctant Wanderer Abdoulaye Meite has been told he is not wanted at the Reebok.

He angered his team-mates when he refused to go out for the second half at Manchester United last week and boss Gary Megson appears to have washed his hands of him.

"Something happened at Manchester United that I've never seen before and wouldn't want to see again," said Megson.

This is a bit more information from news.now.co.uk:

Bolton boss Megson admits Meite future in doubt
tribalfooball.com - March 27, 2008

Gary Megson has admitted Abdoulaye Meite could leave Bolton on loan after refusing to come out for the second half against Manchester United.

The Ivory Coast international was replaced at half-time in the 2-0 defeat to Old Trafford but Megson has revealed that it was not because he was injured or because he had opted to make a tactical change.

Megson claims Meite just decided he did not want to continue, and the Bolton boss admits the behaviour was not well received by his team-mates.

Megson has other options in defence and had been prepared to loan Meite out to Ipswich, but he insists the player himself rejected the move.

"He just decided he didn't want to play on against Manchester United in the second half," Megson told Sky Sports News.

"The players weren't happy with it, the squad wasn't happy with it.

"We've had the opportunity, Abdoulaye turned it down, to go to Ipswich on loan. I would have let him go.

"There's another couple of championship clubs he can go on to until the end of the season.

"It's not a case that we won't pick Abdoulaye Meite, it's a case of we've got people playing in that position and playing very well."

Meite roll the clock back a couple of months where were you? African Nations Cup if memorary serves me well. You left us at a time we needed a strong squad, we replaced you with Cahill, To expect to come straight back in is tough, you have to fight for youre place clearly you're a bottler and to refuse toplay at a time when you're club needs you is a disgrace, In world war 1 people like you were shot for cowardice, Dont come back we want pride in the shirt.

Good luck to the boys tmorrow against The Gooners.

He hasn't been wanted since last year, he's the worst centre half we've ever had.

Hmmmm...something of an exaggeration methinks. Meite is a good player but he's been playing badly. Something he has in common with several players since Allardyce left.

Meite is clearly a superior player to journeymen like Andy O'Brien, Matt Taylor, Joey O'Brien etc.

Meite has responded badly to the appointment of Sammy Lee and Gary Megson.

The underlying problem lies with the management.

I'm certainly not a fan of Meite, but worst centre half we've ever had?

Who remembers John Higgins? No, hang on, he was quite good. You could be right Chris.

Typical knee jerk response there Chris. How many games did Meite play last season when we qualified for Europe - not bad for our worst ever defender. Its this attitude that makes football increasingly unattractive. I listened to the England 'fans' the other night. A 1-0 defeat away to France and the whole structure of English football is wrong. If Capello wins 2 games the bunting will be out in preparation for football 'coming home.'(sic)

The only reason Meite looked passable was Faye.

When Faye left, Meite had nowhere to hide, and no-one to look after him.

Yeah, cause sides usually qualify for Europe with our clubs 'worst ever' centre back playing for most of the season. If he was so bad, we could have played next to Bobby Moore and we wouldn't have qualified.

You typify the modern football fan. Everything's great or sack the board - no in between. What makes you think we have a right to d any better than 1-0 away to France? If you feel like this about modern football, you know what you can do.

I wouldnt say its a knee jerk reaction, Meite most of the time is like a headless chicken, confuses fellow defenders and cannot communicate with Jussi/Ali at all...GET RID!

I agree - get rid, but mainly because it looks like he doesn't want to play for us. Like I said previously, considering 'Meite most of the time is like a headless chicken, confuses fellow defenders and cannot communicate with Jussi/Ali at all...' we did amazingly well to qualify for the UEFA cup last season with him playing most games.

Completely agree with Chris on this one, I can't remember Meite having a decent game since Faye was shipped off to Newcastle.

Meite better than Andy O'Brien and Matt Taylor? Are you having a laugh?? Meite is an absolute joke, and I hope the club make sure he never even sets foot in the Reebok Stadium, never mind actually play for us again. He's a cr@p footballer and somebody who could not be called a professional footballer.

Teflon Gary strikes again. It's not Tef's fault that:

- we haven't scored for 7 hours
- Anelka went
- we lost against 10 man Wigan
- we disrespected the UEFA Cup
- he fell out with Meite and also Diouf, Campo and Jaaaskelainen
- Gartside didn't choose a better manager
- we've only got 6 points from the last 10 games
- our points run rate is 0.17 a game: as bad as Derby
- he has negative tactics
- Taylor can't score
- we are almost certainly down
- he's morphing into Sammy Lee
- he insults fans

...and the fans haven't yet turned on him at the Reebok, only because they respect the team, it's heritage and the players far more than they respect Teflon Gary: but if Tef takes us down then expect a different view to emerge.

Remember Ray Deakin? Or Dave "Sutty" Sutton? Great days , Not so great Centre halves though! But I take your point - Meite has looked a bit shaky of late. Get rid if they don't want to play for the white shirt!!!

Anyone remember Sammy Lee? Sacked for getting 5 points in 10games .

What have
Bolton got in the last ten league games? Six Points !

A 20% improvement for super smeggo !

I think Gartslime should immediately pay himself and the ginger one a big bonus.

I think a few years on the reserve team might do him some good. Seriously hoe much value has been lost with this squabble. Let him practice and see if value comes back them dump him .

You all seem to have short memories our worst centre back left in january, Gerad Cid. Meite has not been settled since Faye left the club, I assume he was hoping Sam would take him to newcastle. The root of the problem at the club is the fact that players in the squad, have had to adopt to three different management styles in 12 months, all being less professional than the previous one.
Why should the players hold clear the air talks when clearly a good manager would see the signs of trouble early and nip it in the bud. As for the dip in form and lack of goals not being linked to Anelka's departure. If thats what the manager believes then he is an imbecile.
Promoted or relegated he must depart this club & a serious shake up at higher levels must take place if we do not want to be the next Leeds or forest.

Hope you have sobered up a bit since the irish bar in madrid. Nice to see your name on these posts again.

Couldn't agree more. Even if our manager is a waste of space, the team comes first and if he doesn't want to wear the shirt, then he should go.
