I doubt that Elliott will stay with us for the duration of this new contract. All we have done is ensure we get some money from him when he eventually moves on.

Edit: that should be 'get some money for him' not 'from' him.

I expect he will stay for another season.

I don't believe this! Would you rather he left at the end of the season? For nothing? You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't!

I haven't seen the contract but unless he's got a clause in about leaving for a prem club or a certain price then he is with us for the duration. That's what a contract means. Numbnuts.

Fanatastic news now we will have two good wingers. Also great news re Steve Jones, never good enough.Maybe it was the step up he couldn't handle

Great signing. Possibly the best right winger in the championship.
Good to see his commitment to the club (ok he is being well paid)when he could have gone elsewhere.
Hopefully more quality to come in the summer and we could be in for a good season.

Remember Andy Gray? If any player wants to leave, he will. You're rather naive if you think that Elliott will stay if a bigger club comes in for him. Open your eyes!

The first bit of good news for us clarets for quite a while! Burnley FC could not do any more than get him to extend his contract and either ensure we get compensated for losing him at a later date or get at least another season out of him. Some "big clubs" were interested in taking him this summer, which either makes Elliot stupid for signing a new deal with us when he could have doubled (at least ) his salary with them but it does guarantee that he will actually play whereas he did not have that guarantee anywhere else! Elliot has been our best player this season and it was absolutely necessary to secure his signature! Well done BFC!

Also for the comment on Steve Jones above, I personally would like to thank him for his services, albiet he was not good enough for this division he wore his heart on his sleeve, fought for every ball and always showed pride in our colours which is more than i could say about 8 or so other players in our squad! So all the best snowman and thanks for the effort!!

So what's your point then? Should BFC had let Wade go in the summer for nothing so that you could have even more to moan about? Grow up.

ANYBODY WONDERED AT THE TIMING OF THIS STORY? A PERFECT DIVERSION FOR ANY FANS EXPECTING 1 OR 2 LOAN SIGNINGS TO HELP WIN THE NEXT 6 GAMES!!
INSTEAD OF BRINGING IN A NEW PLAYER BFC EVEN MANAGED TO LOAN 1 OUT!!

Nice to see the usual negative comments being posted (by Rovers Fans) about the Clarets, keep up the good work boys. I for one would like to thank Wade for showing some loyalty to a club who gave him a chance to prove himself, its a very rare commodity in football today.

I will reiterate as you obviously don't understand. If he doesn't have a clause in his contract and the club DON'T want to sell him then he won't go.

'Claret Paul, maybe you should spend some more time at college and get a bit more educated.

Either that, or me and you don't watch the same Burnley team.

Lets deal with some of your points.....

1) you mention "resources in the Summer"? When you say resources, I assume you mean money? Where is this money coming from? Don't forget, there is a big black hole at Turf Moor which need filling on a regular basis, and it can only be filled with money. Ah, that's where the Thomas and Gray money went - there should still be £2.5 million of that left, seeing as we only spent £200k on Carlisle. The board have so far come out with many an empty promise, so why do you, and why should any other Burnley fan believe what they are told now? The board can only start getting fans on-side by being straight with them, and putting their money where their mouth is!

2) If we can make the Turf very hostile with 15000+ fans: where are these fans coming from? I can remember when each season ticket holder was given two free tickets to three recent home games - even then, the crowds didn't exceed 13,000. Also, is a fan more likely to turn up when the team is playing well and results are going well? I think the answer to this is yes - therefore, the way Burnley are playing at the moment, and the way recent results have gone are going to mean fewer supporters on the Barnsley game - no more than 11,000. The quality at football will not improve unless there are some new quality signings, which will obviously cost a few quid.

3) You also mention about the club investing heavily and getting into a mess: this will not happen because the suits upstairs are far too cautious with their money. Football is a big gamble, and to gamble, you have to take risks, and unfortunately, the things you have to risk are your money! I appreciate that the stake are high, but if the gamble pays off, the rewards are massive. I don't think that Stoke have gambled massively, but look at their position - they are virtually assured a play-off place, and they have a realistic chance of going up automatically! If the suits didn't wanty to gamble, then maybe they shouldn't have bought into a football club as a hobby!

There does appear to be a pattern to each of the responses doesn't there - the common denominator is money!

So far, Mr Flood has talked about it, but show far, we have not seen it!

He has been all talk and no action, and I firmly believe that every Burnley fan is worth more than that - I mean being lied to on a regular basis about investments and the aspirations of the club.

When Mr Whelan took over at Wigan all those years ago, he talked about being in the Premier league within 10 years. This was BACKED UP with big money signings and attracting better players to the club. Within that 10 year window, where was that club - thats right, in the Premiership!

Responding to comments in previous article.

Okay.....

1) Resources - yes I mean money and we will have money to spend. I can assure you of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree they should be straight, so why have a go at the board????? They are Burnley fans aren't they???? If they were American owners and didn't support the club then that would be bad. I would rather have Mr Kilby and Mr Flood in charge then any American owner (i.e. Mr Hicks - Liverpool').
Well... if you look at the money made on Thommo and compare it with Clarke Carlisle (200k) then we have made 1 million. We do have to look after the club and keep it in a nice state. Maybe we are in a far worse situation then we think? It would be nice if Mr Kilby or Mr Flood came out and told us.
We will have money to spend in the summer, I can guarantee you that, maybe not mega bucks.

2)I agree with signings, but the results are the most important thing that persuade fans to turn up. If we were in the top 6 now and the Barnsley game tomoz, hopefully a win :), we would get 15,000 to 16,000 on. Get into the Premier League then all the fans will come out of the woodwork and we will fill Turf Moor up TWICE! But as it goes the more fans that turn up the more Owen Coyle can have in his budget.

3) Well I do business A-level at college, and if Burnley get in a mess then it will be because of the directors/chairman's fault. I know that risks can go for you or against you, but as a person I always look on the negative side. If we go into a financial mess then we will go into administration or even liquidation.
Also maybe Stoke are far richer than us. Have you looked at the books at Burnley and Stoke and compared them? No.
We do not know what our budget is or our financial cloud, but it must be okay if we are improving our ground and so on. But the argument is that the team is first before the ground!

I don't care about Wigan!!!!!!! or Mr Whelan.

Up the Clarets!!!

Paul Ward :)

You would rather go to prison than earn 5000 pounds plus per week for playing footy?
You must really like prison. Is your gay lover still inside.

Maybe I have missed something... Wade Elliot, without shadow of a doubt has been Burnleys No 1 player this year. Quality to watch and committed. IF he does go in the short term atleast we have made some cash from him if not, lets hope for a good en next year, come on Burnley

Paul, nice comments, and I appreciate the argument. However, maybe I haven't seen the books at Burnley or Stoke, but by the same token - have you? You seem to be so assured that Burnley will have money to spend in the summer. I doubt it will be a huge amount, and that we will in fact be one of the top-5 lowest spenders in the division, but I do admire your optimism, and I hope your right!
Posted by: Paul Ward, College on 1:05pm Mon 31 Mar 08
No I haven't looked at the books. But if Stoke are spending then they must have cash to spend. Unfortunately we don't. Plus Stoke have had at least an average attendence of 18,000+ this year with them being up there; so that extra funds will give them extra money.

When Wade Elliott gets the ball I expect something to happen. He is a really good player at this level and has been our best player for this season and last season. If we had 11 Wade Elliott's then we would be in the top 6. Hard worker, probably always consistent.

I remember seeing Wade in his first season, he never really attacked his full back. Now he gives them the run around. Give credit for former Burnley manager Steve Cotterill for signing him.

If you look at the lower league signings we made (i.e. Wade Elliott from Bournemouth, Duff from Cheltenham etc) - they have been really good signings.
