Girl, 14, sexually assaulted on a train
A MAN is being hunted by police after a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a train.
British Transport Police said that the man had sat next to the girl on the 8.03pm service between Blackburn and Manchester Victoria on Saturday February 23.
He then asked her a number of questions which became more personal whilst placing his hand on her leg.
The offender is believed to have left the train at either Bromley Cross or Hall i'th'Wood stations between 20.20hrs and 20.30hrs.
He is described as a black male, 5ft 7ins tall, of a slim build, wearing black smart trousers, a black jumper with a white top underneath his jumper.
He was carrying a mobile phone charger and is said to have spoken with a Blackburn accent.
PC Kath Moreland said: "The victim was made to feel uncomfortable and frightened and was left extremely upset and shocked following the incident.
"I am appealing to anyone who was on this train or anyone who recognises the description to come forward."
Anyone with information should contact PC Kath Moreland at British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 405040 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Poor girl!
Where was the Guard while this was happening? Northern are terrible about going up and down the train between Manchester and Bromley Cross - they only ever seem to start checking tickets once outside Greater Manchester.

Well how's about some indication of his AGE?
Are we looking for a teenage,middle-aged or geriatric here?!
There is not a particularly high population of black people in the Blackburn area,so when ALL the facts are reported in the LET,he should not be too difficult to locate...

What's a 14 year old girl doing travelling to manchester on her own on a train at that time of night - any comments from her parents? When i was that age i wasn't even allowed out around my own area after it had gone dark. Possibly this could be a reason for more and more younger girls being assaulted. If this were my daughter there'd be no way she's be allowed on a train at this time of the evening, 14 year olds are still children and therefore still vulnerable, no matter how grown up they may think they are. No doubt i will be crucified for my comments. Obviously i hope the scumbag gets caught but no doubt he would only get a slap on the wrists knowing how soft this country is.

8pm is not late for crying out loud, some episodes of Corrie start at that time, it's pre-watershed! Adolescents should be able to walk the streets and use public transport without being molested at any time of the day. This is a civilised country, the last time I checked.

People should be able to walk, cycle, use public transport etc at any time of day or night and not be assaulted. In fact they can - this is just one horrific exception to the rule. I get the train to between Blackburn and Manchester every day and this is a very isolated incident.

I totally agree 8pm isnt late..BUT with everything you hear nowdays of perverts kids running away..etc.I'd definitely be more cautious as to where my 14 yr daughter was at that time.ON a train, is defintely a no no in this day & age at 8pm on winter nights also, dark. You can't trust anyone these days..& as one said kids of today aged 14 do look 18.NOT that gives anyone the right to mess with girls or boys.

One. Lay off the caps. Two. Stop speculating about where her parents happened to be. No, they were not at the pub. Three. Stop blaming the parents or the child. The child was assaulted!
Imagine yourself at 14. Imagine how scared you would be if it happened to you. Imagine how afraid you would be afterwards to go anywhere alone. Imagine how long it is going to take this young girl to forget this. Stop concentrating on the things that do not matter now. Like being out at 8pm. 8pm! My God, it is not like it was midnight! 8pm as someone stated earlier is still before the watershed!
Instead, try concentrating on finding this man. The man who should not be allowed to intimidate somebody in this way. THAT is what counts now. And please stop the comments blaming the girl and her parents. Don't you think they are suffering enough right now without having that thrown at them too?

Some people are bone thick, why are they blaming the kid or the parents for this attack?
How would you like it if your 14 year old child was raped and the the judge told you it was your fault because you had the let the child out on there own?
[bold]WTF[/bold] is wrong with society when you have a section of it that blames the victim for a sexual assault??

Ahh just some more enrichment, and before the brainwashed or braindead detractors start calling the racism card, do a bit of research first, and you will find this is becoming more and more commonplace, because these guys know that the screaming pc brigade have made Britain a safe haven for them to carry out any crime they like. The facts are there, go out and find them, and they are not the figment of some right wing imagination. Next time it could be your kids, and no good saying they shouldnt be out after a certain time, violent attacks by immigrants upon our kids are happening each and every day, morning noon and night.

To Devils Advocate: If you read this story properly and can take your eyes away from the word "black" you will read that the pervert had a Blackburn accent, suggesting he was born in the UK. And a few names for you: Ian Huntley, Fred West, Mark Dixie, Steve Wright... not all sex pests are "immigrants", you narrow-minded bigot.

Nobodys blaming the girl. Its the parents that should have been around, yes I am very sorry for her it must be the worst thing ever to happen. But I think the parents should be held accountable for letting someone under aged to travel at that time of night (and yes its dark) and strange people are around. Christ I would at least made sure she was travelling with someone else. Always better in twos

This isnt just happening on the Trains, its happening on all public transport.
My Son was traveling from Blackburn to Darwen on a bus when a Big built Asian guy sat next to my son and did exactly the same thing in day light.
My son did a video interview with police and this guy was caught on CCTV on the bus sat next to my son and was seen to carry out his probably sexual kick! The guy was seen by an off duty police officer in The Mall in Blackburn town centre who called the station and the guy was arrested.
The guy was taken to court and was put on probation for indecent assualt on two boys over 13 years of age and one who was under the age of 13. This was all this guy got and so many hours community service.
Its only going back to before christmas when I was in Blackburn with my son and this sick person passed me and my son because my son pointed him out to me. So his still on the lose.
Its not just girls who are going through this its boys as well, so its not down to what the victim is wearing (as my son wasnt wearing make up and tarty dress, as yas from Blackburn post).
Members of the public no matter what age sould be allowed to walk the streets and travel to wherever they like without having to come across these sick people.
As some people will say this girl shouldnt of be out on her own in the dark at thist time of night but we cant wrap children in cotton wool all there lives. What do you expect the parents to do when this girl becomes 16+ and she works out of town or goes collage and has to travel via public transport to and from work/collage... is she ment to stay home because of dark nights etc.
Like when other people are attacked and some people will say they shouldnt be out on there own, they could just be going home from work etc. They cant put there lives on hold for fear of being attacked/assualted.
If those who say this girl shouldnt of been out on her own at this time in the dark then maybe if someone attacks them or assaults them then maybe you shouldnt be out at that time of night or day either. Its just the same!

Society today makes us [bold]think[/bold] about how we go about things and it is all about [bold]common sense[/bold] .
I wouldn't travel to Manchester on my own in the dark and i certainly wouldn't have allowed my daughter to either as i would have deemed that totally irresposible.
Of course this chap shouldn't have [alledgedly] done what he has done and if it is proved he did do it then i hope he gets the sentence he deserves.
