A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after a suspected letter bomb exploded at the London headquarters of council outsourcing firm Capita, which does work for Blackburn with Darwen Council.
According to reports sources at the London firebrigade a letter bomb went off, but police would not confirm this.
Capita runs a number of services for Blackburn with Darwen Council from a base in Barbara Castle Way, Blackburn.
It also has a call centre in Darwen's India Mill.
A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 9.40am this morning to reports of a suspect package at a business address in Victoria Street.
"A female employee has been taken to hospital with minor injuries."
Local Capita bosses said they would be on a heightened state of vigilance but would not be stepping up security following the mail bomb attack on their London HQ.
Alasdair Reid, director of the Blackburn business centre, said: "We are on heightened vigilance after the incident.
"We have mail checking processes here already and we are not planning to change that until we know exactly what's happened."
