Review: Dragons' Den, BBC2

Hilary Devey aka Cruella de Vil in shoulder pads is really growing on me after her second on screen appearance.

As the latest Dragon in the Den she’s a welcome addition to the team, and after an unsure and investment free first week, the feisty female from Bolton is really getting into her stride.

She makes Deborah Meaden look like a timid kitten, and I have to admit I’ve become a bit of a Hilary fan already.

Behind the power dressing and lipstick there’s a kindness to the self made millionaire. Unlike the others, we see Hilary putting the nervous budding entrepreneurs at ease, telling them “you’re doing fine.” But she’s not a soft touch, there’s still a rottweiler growling under those blazers and you certainly wouldn’t cross her. But she saves her bark for the more arrogant of pitchers and treats the shy characters with kid gloves.

This was her approach with husband and wife team Liz and Alan Colleran who received an £800,00 investment form the new dragon for their zip-up memory foam mattress and duvet combo aimed at the caravaning market.

Hilary has certainly made her mark in the Den and I can see her taking over from Peter Jones as the most popular Dragon, she’s already got the whole of Lancashire behind her.

Keep up the good work Hilary – you’re on fire!
