PERHAPS it’s because we’re so used to seeing her behind a trolley in Tesco, but Jane Horrocks looks right at home in the supermarket set of her latest drama Trollied.
From the makers of The Office and The IT Crowd, Sky One’s latest comedy had a head start with comedy fans when it started its run this week. With laughs aplenty, Rossendale born Jane alongside actor Mark Addy lead a very funny cast. Set in Valco, a fictional supermarket in the North West, the eight-part sitcom puts a comic twist on one of our most familiar surroundings.
We’ve all been there, getting annoyed in the aisles when they’ve run out of your favourite brand of toilet roll just because it’s on offer, or being frustratingly stuck in a check-out queue with a cashier programmed to slow-mode.
Trollied brings all the fun of the weekly shop to life.
A highlight in the first episode came in the form of new starter Margaret (Rita May, from Coronation Street), a recruit of Valco’s older person employment scheme, who was far from a natural on the tills.
I’m sure, as with every good comedy series, it’ll only improve as it finds it’s feet and gathers pace as the weeks go on.
Either way it’s already a breath of fresh air in the TV schedule.
