Blackburn woman Elissa Corrigan in new E4 show Desperate Scousewives tonight

REAL DEAL Elissa Corrigan REAL DEAL Elissa Corrigan

A GLAMOROUS go-getter from Blackburn is to star in a ‘dramality’ TV show set to rival The Only Way is Essex and Made in Chelsea.

Desperate Scousewives follows some of Liverpool’s best-known scenesters, aspiring to make a name for themselves, with particular focus on eight fiercely independent women.

One of the women is 26-year-old Elissa Corrigan, who left her hometown of Blackburn to study in Liverpool when she was 18.

She said: “It’s something I never thought I would do in a million years, but one of my best friends said he really wanted to do it and that he wanted me to be in it as well.

“My ex-boyfriend Joe had already signed up and when the producers found that out they really wanted me on board.

“There is a lot of history between us and some unresolved feelings, so it’s a situation that people can empathise and identify with.”

The show is part-reality TV, part-drama, securing its place in the burgeoning ‘dramality’ genre.

Like hit shows, The Only Way is Essex, Made in Chelsea and Geordie Shore, it is completely unscripted, but according to Elissa, that is where the similarity ends.

She said: “It’s completely different to something like The Only Way is Essex - it’s so much more real.

“What you see on screen is 100 per cent genuine. I wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t.”

Elissa used to live in the Beardwood area of Blackburn.

Her dad, Michael Corrigan, is a senior partner at Farley’s Solicitors in Blackburn, and writes the daily ‘Your Rights’ column in the Lancashire Telegraph.

Describing Liverpool as her ‘adopted home’, the former Westholme School-pupil, who works as a freelance journalist and columnist, said she would not disguise her Lancashire roots.

“I’m not going to put on a scouse accent when I’m not from Liverpool,” she said.

“Thousands of people come here to study every year and a lot of them end up staying.

“I’ve lived in the city for nearly 10 years now - I represent new Liverpool.

“I can’t wait for the first episode. We’re all glamorous, independent women who live in the city.

“We work hard and play hard to afford the way we look and don’t need men to pay our way.

"None of us are looking for a meal ticket.”

Desperate Scousewives airs on E4 at 10pm tonight.

well done? Elissa is doing nothing other than letting cameras film her life. If it does lead to bigger and better things at best it will be fleeting. Too many reality "stars" about for it to lead to a long term career.
