Chorley soldier Jonjo Kerr has been handed a shock return to the X-Factor.

He is one of four X Factor contestants who were dropped in the first live show who will now vie to re-enter the competition.

But he has to receive more phones than 2 Shoes, Amelia Lily and James Michael to take advantage of the gap following Frankie Cocozza's departure.

If he wins enough votes, he will return to the show to join the other six remaining finalists on Saturday.

Voting has opened now. The numbers are:

:: 2 Shoes - 0901 616 1301
:: Amelia Lily - 0901 616 1302
:: James Michael - 0901 616 1303
:: Jonjo Kerr - 0901 616 1304.

ITV and show producers talkbackThames and Syco have said the profits - amounting to at least 22p per call - will go to Help For Heroes.

Programme-makers had been locked in discussions to work out how to go forward with the series with one less contestant.

Without a replacement, it would have drawn to a conclusion early, or would have meant one weekend without a public vote, which could have deterred viewers.

Jonjo, who serves with the Yorkshire Regiment, exited after a performance of Kinks classic You Really Got Me, which was panned by judge Gary Barlow.

He, and the other three thrown a lifeline, exited without facing a public vote after their own mentors were forced to choose who they should sacrifice in a surprise twist.

The wannabes will be performing either a Queen or Lady Gaga song on Saturday.

An X Factor spokeswoman said: "The four acts have never been in a public vote so, with Frankie leaving the competition, this is an opportunity for the public to decide who comes back to the show."

Phone lines opened at 4pm today and close during the show on Saturday, which begins at 8.15pm, with call terms at www.itv.com/terms.
