The tennis ace born in Manacor in Majorca, will front a campaign to make the Balearic Islands number one for holidaymakers who are interested in events and sports tourism.

Posters which are due to be distributed round Europe next year, show the tennis champion sailing on yachts, Nordic walking through the countryside, lounging on the beach, enjoying a round of golf and cycling in the most picturesque parts of these refined islands which are popular with tour operators for cheap holidays in the Balearics.

The tennis star, born 3rd June 1986, is famous across Spain and the Balearics due to his impressive tennis career in which he is currently ranked World No.2.

The islands are keen to diversify their product as figures show UK arrivals drop by 12% so far this year.

Susanna Sciacovelli, Managing director of the Balearics Tourist Office said: "It is very important to spread travel across the seasons and we want to be top of mind for golf and meetings so we can increase the number of tourists across the year."

She said that additional funds were being diverted into tourism promotion specifically targeting the UK, these will include campaigns and promotions which emphasize the islands' easy access from the UK, excellent infrastructure (in terms of conference facilities and golf courses) and extremely short flight times.

The Balearics have suffered greatly due to the economic downturn and the poor value of the pound to the euro.

Many tourists are choosing non-euro destinations such as Turkey, Egypt and Morocco as they are finding they'll get better value for money and a better exchange rate.

With many cheap holidays in the Balearics coming up for 2010, now is the time to start looking and get booking! There are some fantastic deals out there, and although you may not get as much for your money in the exchange rate, you'll get a really cheap deal for your holiday.
