Peter Kay fans boost Blackburn girl's cancer battle

Peter Kay has boosted a life-saving campaign for a six-year-old cancer battler by £10,000 – after letting her ‘av’ ticket proceeds from two warm-up shows.

The Bolton comedian donated all the profits from the tour shows at the Bury Met to the Madison Allan Appeal.

Madison’s family, who live in Lower Darwen, only found out about the gesture when the news went on Kay’s official website.

They were contacted at the weekend by his agent, asking where to send the money.

And, like the catchphrase from his famous John Smith’s adverts, Kay has now let the Allan family ‘av it’ in the form of a cheque for £10,308.43.

Madison’s grandmother Alison Foster said: “It’s absolutely fantastic.

"We thought maybe it would raise a couple of thousand, but we’re all amazed it’s over £10,000.

“We are writing a letter to Peter to say thank you for it, and we’re trying to find out how he’s heard about Madison’s appeal. We haven’t got a clue.”

Madison needs a total of £250,000 for life-saving treatment not currently available in the UK.

So far, over £100,000 has been raised and she is now undergoing the third course of a trial chemotherapy drug.

The Lower Darwen Primary School pupil and her mum, Samantha, will fly out to the Greifswald Hospital, on the Baltic Coast, on Monday, May 23, for a week of testing and scans on the neuroblastoma tumour, wrapped around vital organs in her stomach.

The last scan taken showed the tumour had shrunk all over by two centimetres.

Mrs Foster added: “We’re hoping that she will be able to meet Peter Kay to say thank you to him for his donation.”

Kay said: “I just read about it in the paper and decided to help the appeal.

"I hope it helps in some way.”

It is so nice to know that there are some celebrities out there who haven't forgotten where they came from.
Good on you Peter.
Thinking of you Madison, hope it works.
