Erik Bauersfeld, who turned three words from a minor acting role – “It’s a trap!” – into one of the most beloved lines of the Star Wars series, has died aged 93.
The performer, who voiced Star Wars character Admiral Ackbar in Return Of The Jedi, died on Sunday at his home in Berkeley, California.
Erik stayed in radio for much of his life, but stumbled into the Star Wars series while working on a radio project at Lucasfilm.
He ended up voicing the roles of both the rebellion’s Admiral Ackbar and Jabba the Hutt’s henchman Bib Fortuna in the third movie in the sci-fi/fantasy series in 1983.
The character Admiral Ackbar also appeared in last year’s Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
Despite limited screen time, the creature with its large domed head and fish-like eyes became a long-time Star Wars fan favourite.
His key line, “It’s a trap!”, even became a popular internet meme.
