Ed Sheeran has trumped Coldplay with a swift rise to the top of the albums chart today.
The Sing vocalist's new album has gone straight in at the number one spot, making it the fastest-selling album of the year so far.
He snatches the crown from former record-holders Coldplay, whose album Ghost Stories sold 168,000 copies in the first week of its May release.
But Sheeran's album X has shifted 182,000 copies this week.
From today the official singles chart will count songs played on streaming services like Spotify and Deezer but the first chart to incorporate streams will not be released until next Sunday, the Official Charts Company said.
In the final singles chart not to count streaming, Dutch DJ Oliver Heldens and British singer-songwriter Becky Hill hit the top spot with their collaboration Gecko (Overdrive), which knocked X Factor contestant Ella Henderson's debut single Ghost down to number two.
