Liam Gallagher has sparked rumours of an Oasis reunion with a series of mysterious tweets.

The singer sent Twitter fans into a frenzy after spelling out the band's name in five messages, posting one letter at the time.

He tweeted the letters O A S I S individually over a few hours on Thursday night (April 24), and then he finished with a message that simply said: "OASIS LG."

The cryptic tweets had fans in a spin and "Liam Gallagher" and "If Oasis" were apparently among the top UK Twitter trends during the evening.

Liam, 41 - who now fronts rock band Beady Eye - was also bombarded with questions from people asking what his tweets meant but didn't respond.

Many fans speculated that the messages hinted at a reunion, with one saying it was the most exciting event of their life and another joking that they would happily sell organs for the chance to see Oasis perform.

Others took Liam's message to mean that he and brother Noel were definitely getting back together following Oasis' acrimonious split in 2009.

However, Noel, 46, has previously suggested that he wouldn't be interested in reuniting.

Meanwhile, some bookmakers have reportedly suspended betting on the band headlining Glastonbury as a result of the star's message.
