Brooke McCarter, star of The Lost Boys, has died at the age of 52 after battling a genetic liver condition.
The actor’s family confirmed the news with a statement on his Facebook page.
“The McCarter family is heartbroken to share the news that Brooke McCarter passed away December 22, 2015 from the genetic liver condition alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AAT). He was 52,” they wrote.
“Brooke was our loving son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend.”
Best known for his role as vampire Paul in the 1987 film, he starred alongside Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Billy Wirth and Alex Winter.
After becoming friends on the set, he managed the career of former child star Corey Haim, who died suddenly in 2010.
Brooke went on to appear in several TV shows, among them The Twilight Zone. His feature films include Wired, which depicted the life of The Blues Brothers comedian John Belushi, and The Emerging Past.
Lost Boys co-star Corey Feldman took to Twitter to pay tribute. “Very sad. R.I.P. Brooke,” he wrote.
Brooke is survived by his 12-year-old daughter.
