Make Lancashire Safer charity single on sale now

THE Best That I Can Be, a single recorded to raise awareness of anti-social behaviour in Lancashire, is now available to buy and download.

The single was written by Darwen DJ Martin Cooper, of The Bee radio station, and produced by Daniel Reid and is in support of the pressure group Make Lancashire Safer, the brainchild of Blackburn DJ Kirk Bullen.

It features more than 100 artists from across Lancashire and vocal performances by Shameless actors Rebecca Atkinson (Karen McGuire) and Ben Batt (Joe Pritchard).

Recording was done, Band Aid-style, in Darwen Library Theatre and the track is all set to take the UK charts by storm with the backing of local listeners.

Martin said: “I wanted to create something that would stand up against other songs being played on the radio.

"I wanted people to hear it and enjoy it, then want to discover more about it.

"I decided to write a track about self-improvement and what we as individuals can achieve if we strive to be the best we can be.”

Kirk said: “For the single to make the UK Top 40 we need to sell somewhere in the region of 3,000 copies, but the more sales we get the better.”

The project is being backed by Shameless actors Rebecca Atkinson, who plays Karen McGuire, and Ben Batt, who plays Joe Pritchard All proceeds from the sale of the record go to charity.

Why does it take a record to spurn dogooder softly softly projects to curb antisocial behaviour? Fair but firm is the key with strong punishment and deterrent for not being co-operative and sanctions for yob behaviour will work better than this kneejerk softie dogooding nonsense!

Hi Anthony, in regards to your comment, it isnt a sofy, softy project, the campaign is raising awareness throughout lancashire, we are a voluntary campaign, with no funding, making a difference to our community, the campaign was started through an attack on my uncle which left him fighting for hes life, the defendant, pleads guilty to G.B.H , but not guilty to wounding with intent. Verdict : not guilty, even though there is full CCTV evidence. My uncle is still in hospital months & months down the line, with devastating effects. Also the fatalities which have recently hit our county, with devistating effect. We are just members of the public trying to make a difference, the single highlights the campaign, and also shows that Lancashire is making a stance, for the rest of the U.k. That Government DO need to do something about this. All the money for the campaign comes out of individual pockets (Our Pockets) (just working citizens) when this really shouldn't be the case at all.. It has taken over 5 months to make this single and complete it. With over 100 people involved, it certainly is not a softy softy approach, you should maybe look at the facebook group or website, and im sure you will have more of an indepth idea of what this really is all about.

AnthonyUK, we all know you are a negative and depressive person from your forum comments! Why can't you see that this is a positive move which can only do good? Please explain to me why this is not a great idea! BTW, Martin, if you're reading this - well done, old son!! Speak soon.

How can releasing a record to raise awareness of antisocial behaviour do any sort of good? It won't necessarily get thru to everybody and spur them on to take positive non punishment action against young people and their troublesome gangs who create nuisance and distress and upset every night of the week school holiday and weekend of the year. All this record seems to do is force a sense of community spirit in everyone"if young people are causing you hassle then why don't you go out and talk to them in a reasonable manner and befriend them rather than ordering them off your property/moving them on etc calling police etc causing a negative response?", that sort of response to it doesn't always work-there are those who will push your patience to the limit and refuse to comply reasonably with those polite requests and do anything to carry on the behaviours. This is just a sympathy vote.

AnthonyUK slow down, use the odd comma, and tell us your solution.

Anthony Your Vocabulary isn't very high is it?

The campaign does go round Schools, and to other projects to speak to youths. So, if there was 12 teenagers throwing bricks at your window, you would go out and befriend them? I can't see this as a solution. The campaign is about raising awareness about how fatal a punch can be, or a kick to the head. Most youths don't actually know this.
Were also actually in the process of making 5 very hard hitting scenes, which will be dispached to all Schools & youth centres in Lancashire. Tell you what Anthony, You put your hand in your pocket, you spend hundreds & Hundreds on Our community, trying to make a difference, then come back and post your negative comments!..
As for sympathy votes?.. I think you have a problem, there is more upstairs in a Bungalow, you need to have a reality check, and get with the times, in the last 8 months there have been 3 murders and 4 people critically ill, due to Violent attacks, where youths attack someone and don't stop. When you have personally experienced this, then come back, and lets see if your as negative as you are now.
Like i said, there is more upstairs in a Bungalow. :-)

well done kirk, you and your team are doing a fantastic job.. all the best for the single guys...x

anthonyuk... you are a very negative person, its very rare you have a young group of people wanting to try there best in making a difference, and good on them for doing so. you really need to open your eyes and see the bigger picture you clearly need to do some research on the group making lancashire safer!!

I didn't mean go out and befriend teenagers causing trouble, what I meant was that the youthworkers/childre
n's rights dogooders etc would rather you did talk to them etc and engage with them than take direct punitive action(which could and does regularly see people get fined jailed and charged for taking them on) or further inflame the situation by getting police or anybody else involved making you a further target for their behaviours. It should be more than that;housing associations should evict the children and their families from an area and blacklist them to every housing association across the UK so they cannot get rehomed by ANY housing associations at all and have to go private, if the kids suffer having to go into sh*t accomodation and dire living conditions it's their own fault for being antisocial and the parents fault for not controlling their children. All this record can do is raise awareness but it is only a stop-gap to a bigger problem. It needs housing associations and councils to take serious thought of how they manage antisocial parents and families of antisocial children with instant NOT delayed eviction for antisocial behaviour, and the police shouldn't pussyfoot around being soft on the youths with their softly softly approach which respects a childs rights.

Yeah but were not doing that? we actually are engaging with youngsters, and educating them, showing them what effects it can have on a community and a family. And i do agree with you that the Government should do much more, its sad when we don't get any kind of government help at all. The only help we have been receiving is from the Bar-U & Pub Schemes.

First of all, well done to all those involved in making Lancasher a safter place and the work you have all put in to this single as well as climbing Ben Nevis.

I'm a member of your Facebook group and I will be buying the single.

I as a parent of a victim know how bad the violence is in Lancashire after my son was beaten up nearly 2 years ago in Blackburn Town Centre, like Sophie Lancasher all because of the way that he dressed. They caught the lad involved (but not all of them) and the courts had the cheek to award my son £30 compensation which was to be paid at £2 a week.... what a joke! I could name the lad involved right here and now, but my post will probably be removed!

SO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ALL....
