A BAND fronted by a former Burnley schoolboy will perform at an album launch at former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook’s Factory nightclub.

The track ‘Hollywood Lied’ by Super 8 Cynics is included on the Taste Masters 2 compilation album, touted as a showcase of the North West’s top talent.

The five-piece, fronted by former St Theodore’s RC High School pupil Ady Hall, have also been handpicked to perform at the Manchester club next weekend.

Ex-Ministry of Sound director Tony Rigg, who now owns independent record label The Laboratory Project, spotted the band earlier this year.

Impressed by the Super 8 Cynics sound, the music mogul asked the band if they would take to the iconic Factory stage in Princess Street next Saturday.

Ady said: “As a new band trying to promote our first album, it’s refreshing to meet someone like Tony who really listens to and cares about the music.

“It’s exciting to be a part of a truly independent project that harks back to the glory days of the Manchester music scene. The launch party is going to be a great night, and we’re all looking forward to playing at such a prestigious venue with so many other talented artists”

The Super 8 Cynics members all hail from the North West and the band’s sound includes elements of hard rock, pop and new wave.

Tony spotted the band while they were touring their self-titled debut album.

He said: “The problem with the music business today is it is more about business so most of the music we get is manufactured to formula.

“The Laboratory Project is anti-contrived pop and pro organic music. We are committed to exposing brilliant, original music, hence the Super 8 Cynics fit perfectly into our artist portfolio.”

The Taste Masters 2 launch party will be hosted by MC Tunes, with live sets from China White, Antistar, Salford Jets, Jimmy Docherty and Dresden.

Tickets cost £6 and include entry to the Stone Love club night. Go to super8 cynics. com.
