Spring and Port Wine is on target to become the Octagon Theatre's best-selling non-festive show in its 40-year history.
The Bill Naughton play opened to 90 per cent capacity, which is the best-ever box office opening for a drama.
It is proving so successful that an extra matinee has been added.

Arthur Miller's The Crucible was the previous best-selling show, and was the first non-festive show to take £100,000 at the box office.
Theatre head of communications, Monika Neall, said: "With Spring and Port Wine running a whole week shorter than The Crucible, we've already hit that £100,000 mark, showing just how successful it is.
"We're absolutely delighted with how well the show has sold, and the audience's responses to this classic Bolton play."
The extra matinee is at 2pm on Saturday, April 26. Tickets are available at £11.50 (£9 concession) on 01204 520661 or at www.octagonbolton.co.uk.

Spring and Port Wine is popular as unlike other contrary opinions. People do have a hankering for the past and the values displayed in the play by Raif.
Many are now of an age where dippy hippy Arthur new ideals, can now be seen as failures.

I went to see this last week & enjoyed it immensely. The acting was superb. I think the attraction to the people of Bolton is that the actual film version was filmed locally. I am not surprised that it is a success. I would urge anyone who fancied seeing it to go it was well worth it.

the film version was done in the street where i grew up, i was a baby at the time but family tell me it was very exciting have film stars in the street lol
