A SECOND road will need to be dug up after the wrong chippings were laid by bungling workers.
Subcontractors have been ordered to resurface Oak Grove, in Darwen, following an inspection by Capita, which manages the highway network on behalf of the borough council.
The council said the contractor had changed supplier for the chippings and the road will be relaid next Tuesday and Wednesday.
It comes just days after workers used slate chippings instead of granite in Queen Victoria Street, Mill Hill, Blackburn.
And last week, council chiefs ordered the demolition of a giant planter just hours after it was completed in King Street — because it did not ‘match’ the area.
Commenting on the Oak Grove blunder, Coun Dave Harling, Blackburn with Darwen Council's executive member for regeneration, said: “We were not happy with the quality of the work when we went to carry out the checks and have asked the contractor to resurface the road at no cost to the council.
“The correct material is robust and will last longer.
“We need to ensure as part of our ‘invest to save’ programme that the resurfacing lasts as long as possible.
“We realise it is an inconvenience to residents but they have told us that they want us to tackle the state of our roads.
“We’re spending £1million on resurfacing roads throughout Blackburn and Darwen so we need to get it right first time.”
Trish Thompson, whose elderly mother lives in Oak Grove, said: “We’re not very happy as it causes an inconvenience.
"My 84-year-old mum has to go everywhere in taxis and last time they had to drop her off in Ivinson Road, but luckily one of the workmen helped her to the front door.”
Linda Richford, of Ivinson Road, near Oak Grove, said: “It’s a major route to the hospital so it’s inconvenient as you can’t get in and out for shopping.”
Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “It should have be done right in the first place.”

Its okay last year, according to british rail, the wrong kind of snow fell so even mother nature gets it wrong. Sometimes I even put the wrong socks on. The big questions that need answering are the ones like. If i have a hole in my sock when I put it on my left foot and my big toe sticks through, If I put the same sock on my right foot, how come my big toe is still sticking through the hole. How does the hole swap sides like that? Am I going mad?

I think you're the reason I walk everywhere. You're the nut that would always sit next to me on the bus despite 30 empty seats.
