HEAD off to Ancient Rome and have a good laugh with a special production staged by Nelson and Colne College performing arts students on June 16 and 17.

The Storm is a new appalling mistranslation by Peter Oswald of the Roman comedy by Plautus.

The basic plot is as follows: A rich financial guru lost his infant daughter to kidnappers after he had given away all his money. Many years later she is washed to his doorstep in a violent storm. How have time and the gods treated them? Will they be able to recognise one another?

In this new version of the Roman comedy by Plautus, Oswald combines high verse and high comedy, slapstick and pathos to examine ideas of freedom and slavery, loss and rediscovery.

* Plautus is at Nelson and Colne College on Wednesday, June 16 and Thursday, June 17 at 7.30pm. Tickets £5. For more information contact Nelson and Colne College’s Student Services or 01282 440209.
