ACTOR David Crellin, known to many as Emmerdale’s Billy Hopwood, is currently appearing in Alan Ayckbourn’s “tea party from hell”, Absent Friends, ot Oldham’s Coliseum theatre.

The actor, who lives in Horwich, plays the role of Colin, who is recovering from the death of his fiance.

Five of his old friends rally round to support him, but organising a tea party to welcome him back proves to be the trigger for unresolved tensions among the group to resurface with a vengeance.

When Colin arrives, the others are baffled to find that, far from needing their help, he is blissfully happy with his memories of the time he spent with his fiancé.

His presence makes it uncomfortably apparent that it is the others in the group who need consoling for their lost dreams and disintegrating marriages.

David started his acting career at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre and studied at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in London.

l Absent Friends runs until Saturday, February 20. For more information, visit coliseum.org.uk or for tickets call 0161 624 2829.
