IS it just me or did everyone really hate the Amarillo song?
After the Comic Relief weekend, last night’s documentary — Peter Kay: Raider of the Pop Charts, looked at Peter Kay’s musical efforts back in 2005.
It seems a long time ago now, but there was a stage when the nation was obsessed with (Is This the Way to) Amarillo and the silly, exaggerated striding "dance" that went with it.
It was played everywhere and its fair to say it well and truly outstayed its welcome.
We even saw soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan having a go at the cheesy, yet irritatingly engaging Tony Christie sing along song.
It was a simple concept that turned Amarillo into the year's biggest-selling song and made lots money for a worthy cause. But do we really need an entire programme to recall this musical mess now its done its job?
I’m glad Comic Relief has moved on since then, and we have actual musicians doing the musical fundraising bits.
