The Ember Inns company prides itself on creating a friendly, relaxing atmosphere for adults, and that’s exactly what you get at the Anderton Arms pub in Fulwood.
Its furnishings and décor create lots of different kinds of space around the pub, to cater for all the different kinds of patrons.
I like the ambience that this creates so I have been to this pub many times in the past but mainly just for a drink.
The pub is also very conveniently located near junction 31A of the M6.
This week I decided to try the food. I had low expectations with it being part of a big pub chain, but I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised indeed.
I ordered the Sunday roast chicken dinner while my friend opted for the mixed grill with pecorino mushroom cognac sauce.
The chicken dinner was excellent, the menu had stated breast of chicken but the meal consisted of a generous selection of every part of the bird but the breast.
I wasn’t disappointed though as the meat was tasty, plentiful and beautifully cooked.
The vegetables were fresh and they were also very tasty, the Yorkshire pud was good, but the stuffing a little bland, in fact the stuffing was the only part of the whole meal that reminded me this was a pub chain.
The mixed grill offered a good selection of cuts, all well cooked and tasty. And the sauce was “out of this world”, I was assured.
The Sunday meal has a dessert option, and I had ordered the ice cream sundae but after such a big meal, I really wasn’t bothered so my friend volunteered to eat it for me.
If I had known how delicious it was going to be, I might have thought twice.
It was oozing with cream, rich chocolate ice cream, blueberry sauce and “chocolate caramel clusters” topped with a chocolate flake.
Sounds overwhelming, it was, but utterly delicious.
We finished off with a Costa coffee, which perfectly wound up a very good meal.
At just over £20 for the meal, I will certainly dine there more often.
How did it fare? (out of six stars): Food **** Drink **** Service *** Atmosphere ****** Value ******
