Fake trainers seized in online auction site probe
MORE than 100 pairs of trainers worth £18,000 were seized in Blackburn as part of a huge crackdown on counterfeit goods.
Police and trading standards officers raided a house in Holland Street and found 108 pairs of fake adidas Y3 and Nike Air Max trainers.
They were investigating the sale of cheap trainers on websites like eBay.
The raid came after trading standards officers received a tip off.
A 26-year-old man has been questioned by police and bailed pending further inquiries.
Insp Paul Goodall said: "The joint operation with trading standards resulted in a significant seizure of counterfeit goods and we would urge anyone who has any further information on such activity to come forward and tell us.
"We do take such matters seriously.
"This was an extremely productive and effective operation which was put in place at short notice by officers. It clearly shows the value of agencies working together to deter such activity."
Chris Allen, head of Blackburn with Darwen Council's trading standards service, warned that people looking for a bargain on auction websites should always make sure they know what they are buying.
He said: "These trainers may have looked like a bargain, but customers were getting fakes.
"Even when you're shopping on an online auction site, our standard warning applies: If it looks too good to be true, it usually is."
East Lancashire has a reputation as one of the counterfeit capitals of the north west.
In a seperate case, last September market trader Iqbal Hussain Patel, 45, of Charlotte Street, Blackburn, was given a six-month suspended jail term for selling hundreds of fake Nike and Lacoste trainers valued at £30,000 at a car boot sale in Clitheroe.

Is there a name for this suspect?
I wonder why not?
Wouldn't be too difficult to have a random guess. Some sections of society will do anything apart from an honest days work.

Who's the dumbo here? So, working on 100 pairs at 180 each - to get 18 grand? Snide trainers 'worth' how much? God knows what the real ones must be worth if the rip-offs are that cheap....
Echo sentiment of earlier poster - we want NAMES - especially of the researcher for this doofus !

This is also illegal. The law in this country applies to everyone and not just white British people. It seems that 95% of all immigrants in this country follow their own laws and can't obey any of ours!!!!

Before you all carry on with your petty comments about certain sections of the community, read the article again - a man has been questioned and bailed -NOT CHARGED with any offence. You don't name people before they are charged.

If there werent customers to buy the fake goods, there wouldnt be traders selling such stuff. If there is demand, it will be filled.
Not condoning such activity, but those pompous people on here giving the high and mighty.... I would bet each and everyone of them has pirated software operating on their computers. May be playing illegal PS2, Xbox games etc etc. So save all the preaching..... first get your house in order !!
