A government funded initiative has helped create 250 new businesses across East Lancashire in just six months.
And the people behind No Limits - a Government Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) aimed at helping businesses - expect the programme to create 4,000 companies and 13,000 new jobs in the next decade.
Utilising £30million of funding, the No Limits Get Set programme has provided finance and training support to fledgling entrepreneurs across East Lancashire.
When it initially launched, No Limits was granted £23.4million, a figure that has swelled by a further £7million.
That will ensure that the programme continues until at least 2011, though No Limits chiefs see it as a decade-long initiative.
Director of No Limits, Steve Hoyle, said: "To have successfully helped launch 250 businesses in this period is a fantastic achievement in itself and it makes you realise how important No Limits will be for the future of our economy.
"These businesses and jobs are being created in the hearts of our communities and are laying foundations for the future prosperity of Pennine Lancashire.
"We took a radical proposal to government to secure funds to regenerate Pennine Lancashire through business development and support at a grass roots level."
Ed Murphy, from East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, added: "It is a private-public initiative to encourage innovation and overseas trade, though there is still a lot of effort on the part of the businesses themselves to get up and running."

So the governemt are giving out tax payers money to help people make themselves rich. And as Andy said 30 million, 10 million in property rental.. 10 million in personell, 5 million in managers to oversee these personel, 3 million in heating and electric, 1 million in pensions, 995 thousand on the xmas do and 5 grand to help people start up their own businnes, sounds like another good idea from the labour government.

Two-thirds of new start-up businesses go bust within 2 years. How many of these enterprises will survive without large free handouts from wonderful "No Limits Get Set" (only a government quango could come up with such a stupid name). Does anyone know how much director Steve Hoyle trousers?

I agree with the other posters and their reservations about how the money is used. I contacted No Limits for advice - not looking for cash but specific advice. After much chasing and speaking with 3 different people I was eventually promised a call back. 1 month later I am still waiting.
These government 'initiatives' certainly don't reach grass roots.
