Coyle urges Lafferty to hit goal trail for Clarets

OWEN Coyle has urged Kyle Lafferty to transfer his international goalscoring form into the league.

The 20-year-old scored twice in the first half of Northern Ireland's 4-1 friendly win at home to Georgia on Wednesday night to further enhance a partnership with David Healy that has become one of the best in the world over the last year.

Lafferty, who matched last season's four-goal tally with his opener against Stoke City earlier this month, showed great awareness and composure to score with a side-foot finish and header.

And the Enniskillen-born front man is delighted that extra hours on the training ground are paying off.

"I was absolutely delighted, not just for me but also for the team," he said.

"To get two goals was the icing on the cake and I was particularly pleased with the header.

"I think this season it's my first headed goal (for Northern Ireland) and hopefully that's a reward for putting a lot of work in.

"I've been staying behind with Steve Davis to work on my heading and it has paid dividends.

"Now I want to take that into the final six games of the season and score a few more for Burnley."

Burnley boss Coyle added: "I think he should take enormous credit for a start, and confidence and belief knowing that if he can do it at international level - the highest level available - you can do it at any level.

"Kyle's not a kid who's lacking in confidence anyway."

, but it certainly doesn't do you any harm when you're getting goals at international level.

"He's capable of scoring right foot, left foot and headers, and the more he does of that in a Burnley shirt then the better for us, and that's what we'll be looking for between now and the end of the season."

"Between now and the end of the season".....He never said in the future did he? i do think he'll go. Shame as i think another season with us and all the promised signings would benefit him. He's a talent and i jus hope that if he does go to Celtic he can command a regular place and not fade into the background. Maybe there sould be a clause in any contract that says if things are not going to well for him, we can have first dibs at a previously agreed price between us and whoever we sell him too!

OWEN Coyle has urged Kyle Lafferty to transfer his international goalscoring form into the league!

Well Owen, maybe if you played Lafferty up front through the middle (his natural position), rather than down the left (out of position), then maybe this could be done!

I will go back to the Wolves game - for the last 20 minutes, Lafferty looked a lot better player and much more of a threat to the opponents once he was moved into the middle!

Also, please please please don't sell him. We need young talent at the club, and I am sure that if he can play at international level, then he can succeed at Championship level. Lets build a team around Lafferty and get that success all Burnley fans crave!

I would play Kyle upfront now. He has to be in the starting 11. Our number one striker from now on.

Cole not interested
Ade better as a sub.
