Town centre tourism office closes
One of Blackpool's two tourist offices closed this week with all visitors now directed to a single site on the Promenade.
For many years two Tourist Information Centres have been in operation, one located on Clifton Street in the town centre throughout the year and one on the Promenade during the season.
Ahead of the main 2008 season the two services have combined and will now operate year round on the Promenade, opposite the Tower.
Councillor Maxine Callow, cabinet for tourism and regeneration, said: "For the majority of our visitors the Promenade is the first place they visit so it makes sense to have one visitor centre in this location.
"Every year this centre receives far more callers and takes more bookings than the Clifton Street office.
"The centre will provide local and regional information, an accommodation booking service as well as the opportunity to purchase tickets to shows and attractions in the town.
"Our tourism staff have a wide range of knowledge and can help visitors with any queries they may have and I'm sure locating them all in one central facility will improve the service we offer to our millions of visitors."
The centre will open seven days a week from Spring Bank Holiday.
Visitors can access information 24/7 via the www.visitblackpool.com website.
