Injury concern for Santa Cruz
 |
| Roque Santa Cruz |
BLACKBURN Rovers are sweating on the fitness of star striker Roque Santa Cruz after the Paraguayan limped out of his country's friendly against South Africa last night.
Santa Cruz was replaced after 21 minutes when he was injured in a poor challenge by Rovers' teammate Aaron Mokoena.

Lets hope he is ok and he was taken off as a precaution! Absolute quality player even when he is not scoring goals, he tries is best to create them!

Thats great, our best player is injured by our worst player. Good old axe. Cannot remember the last time the axe got near an opposition player in a rovers shirt.

The axe (the knob)was quoted the other day about knowing how to stop santa. well it looks like he did.
It was quite early in the game so it was either a bad injury or he was taken of as a precaution.
benni scored he's SA all time top scorer now, if santa is injured for saturday lets hope that benni makes up for it with a good display and a couple of goals.
with the news from last night
its hard today to KEEP THE FAITH, but injuries happen in football.
if santa's injury is serious then an apt song is
'nothing compares to you' sinead oconner/prince

Lets hope the injury isn't too bad. we don't want to lose our best striker at this time of the season when all of our matches are crucial.
SHAKE THE INJURY OFF SANTA..WE NEED YOU!!

I think the Axe needs to understand who pays his wages! Bearing in mind that each place in the premier league is worth half a million, this challenge on Roque could be prove to be very costly if we miss an in form striker on Saturday!

No need to be harsh on Mokoena! Have any of us seen the tackle yet? (Probably Not)
This report was clearly a copy and paste job, therefore we all know that most of the media hate anything to do with rovers, or anything to do with tackling, it was probably nothing and Roque landed funny or something!

Lets be honest here, Mokoena has always been little more than a hatchet man. We all remember his tackle on Robben. I also seem to remember a few dangerous tackles he has gotten away with this season - when he has actually played. So I'm not suprised he's injured Roque. It's probably a show of loyalty to his fellow South African Benni - " Dont worry Benni - I'll injure him so you can get your place back in the team ".
We've got no chance of finishing top 6 without Roque - and we'll be lucky to finish top 10 if we start with the waster that is McCarthy. Only hope is a Roberts - Derbyshire combination.

Take it easy on Moko, do you honestly think he purposefully went in to hurt Santa? Anyone who plays footy will tell you if you go in to a challenge half-hearted then you will end up hurting yourself... Go in 100% or don't go in at all. Big up to Mokoena, i am sure he feels bad enough as it is and lets hope Santa comes right for the remainder of the season...

TOMMO[/quote] I've had the misfortune to endure inept performances from Mokoena "The Axe" for quite some time now, and unfortunately his signing is the aberration that proves the rule of Hughes's otherwise shrewd transfer dealings.
The guy can't pass more than few yards in the direction of his own goal, he can't tackle properly without giving away freekicks, he can't head the ball, he can't shoot and he never scores.
The cherry on the cake of his ineptitude is that he's taken out our leading in-form goalscorer in a FRIENDLY match. Regardless of whether that injury has an impact on our run-in or not, the guy is a liability.
He might look like a world-beater for South Africa, but in the Premiership he's not even an also-ran. I would put every other midfielder we have in the side in front of him, and in fact that is what Hughes has done. Hence his rumblings about wanting a transfer, which if it came to pass would be the most positive thing he has ever done for the Rovers.

..i honestly put mokoena in rovers worst ever starting eleven. he is a pathetically poor, poor player. cant pass?no composure? filthy? and injured several players ie, robben etc. he is awful, i mean what a f*cking idiot to go in his OWN team mate in a friendly. im seething. this sums him up to me, i really hope with vogels arrival that he is off the wage bill asap. he'd struggle to get a game in the championship. so angry!

Mokoena hasnt done very much for Rovers in the time he's been here, why would he do such a thing to Santa, nasty man.

The Axe for some reason as stalled at BRFC & his overall play when playing is ponderous, laboured & lacking composure.
With this in mind then his game as become to - well 'AXE' I guess?
I dont think he as done this with any intention of harm but it could have massive repercussions for the run in to our season?
I would rather it be the other way around in that the 'AXE' was injured cause like you say'he dont score goals' & what do goals do? Win games!!
You shouldn't be so hard on those with a critical view of the 'AXE' simply because he his not doing his job correctly....
No doubt the 'AXE' will have apologised to Santa so lets just hope his ankle injury is not as bad as expected?
Why is everyone on Ossy's case today?

must be because i called the axe a 'knob' woody.
just as a point when has anybody heard me being critical of any rovers player. i have my 'favs' like everybody else but as far as im concerned if they are pulling the blue n white halves on they are good enough for me. as bad as some of the so called lesser lights are, they are manageing to do something that i and many others cant do
1. play proffessional football
2. play in the one of the hardest leagues in the world.
3. represent blackburn rovers.
ide give give any part of my anatomy for the chance.

what about 'when the fingers point' the christians.

i think its a bit too early to be jumping on 'the axe's' back fellas.
They way most of you are talking its like hes 'done' cruz with intent. When he plays he is a little clumsey when it comes to tackling but to blame him for intentionally injuring Santa is way off the mark.
It could been the other way round and we would all be laughing about it! Santa chops down the axe!
If he is injured for the next prem game then so be it...this incident could easily have happened in training, visiting the elf's or having his spray tan done!

Far too many knobbers on this site wanting to get a kick out of causing a bit of friction and winding other readers up. Grow up!!! 90% of you want to write a piece to upset others... I know its a forum but be adult about it.....
Good to see a few still have faith in Moko... he isnt the best in the Prem but Hughes has him there (normally on the bench) to do a specific job... At the end of a day he is a squad player and not a bad asset in the team.

As for calling players read my previous post.
Theres more to a game than scoring goals, if its just a ball going in a net we want to see we would all be following basketball.
As for trading insults it was your post that used the term '2 faced morons' moron i might be but ive only got the 1 face (not very pretty either i may add).
other people obviously took exception to being Similarly refered to.
as for 'bum chums' i tend to agree with woody on a lot of things he sees the game as i see it mostly.
morst is different we tend to disagree on most things but it results in a healthy debate, without the need to get personal or nasty.

Cause I'm at a loss to find it?
I look at players for exactly what they are & 'THE AXE no doubt, for BRFC at least, is off his game.
The tackle resulting in Cruz injury was, as I've said, poor & mistimed at best & no malice was intended.
Your wrong in your assessement of what YOU think we all want [italic]'all about who scores goals with you lot'[/italic].
We want our team to win & they do that by scoring goals & if 1 of our [bold]better[/bold] players is injured then that affects the [italic]'TEAMS GAME'[/italic]
Does it not?
At this stage of the season we need all of our best players fit & ready, sadly it looks like Santa wont be ready for Saturday.
It makes it more galling by the simple fact he has been done by his own team mate in what was in essence a friendy....
I challenge anyone to show me were I've been disrespectful to THE AXE'?
I guess you should show a little more respect seeing as you feel it necessary to call me a 'BUM CHUM' for no other reason than offering my view which I might add was very constructive with just a little flippancy regarding your defence of 'THE AXE'...
PS would love to hear MH views on this incident?

hey Ossy, no doubt your are also known as Gem as well....u should go on friends reunited the way you go on - Woody your defence is feeble, going back to your original and somewhat confusing post, u wished it was the 'other way round' how is that 'respect' it's a shocking and small minded comment ultimately suggesting he is not worthy! as for being a BUM CHUM, since when has Ossy the long worded paratropper ever needed backup....?
Lets face it Mark Hughes will accept it for what it was, i.e. a football game - Santa will be a loss but should not be blamed for whatever result on saturday, and should anyone think of blaming Axe Man, then they are simply a moron, with one or two faces, depending on what Ossy/Rippers/Woody/M
orst/Gem/Rovers girl allows!!!

It dosen't matter if he did it on purpose or not, the fact is he did it.
When last you see Gilberto Silva tackle any other Brazil player.
It's a frigging friendly what was he thinking.
No wonder he sits his A*s on the bench.
**** Loser he should try tackling in the Prem for once.

If you look at the comment regarding 'the other way round' & put it in the context of the discussion you will find that it is(in this case) more advantageous to have a fully firing striker than a squad player who barely gets a look in !!
As for small minded then I suggest you take a good long look at your posts with personel insults to those who you dont know.
So on that it is not only disrespectful but ignorant of you to assume, for instance, 'that he is not worthy' is in someway suggesting I dont think he his.
That is utter toss cause any player in my view is worthy esp if they play for BRFC!!
If it's confusing to you then so be it I dont wish to change your mind.
I'm pleased you can second guess MH in this situation regarding the tackle but I have to disagree with you that you think he will put it down as 'a football game'.
I would suggest he will have something to say on the matter. What exactly is another matter?
I still say find me a disrespectul comment regarding 'The Axe'?
Or unless of course Ully your going into the political arena here because if you are your on the wrong site?

i think it`d be best if mokoena left the club as soon as possible. his tendancy to be a liability is far outweighing his usefullness to the team. i beleive vogel is a much better option for rovers.

People seem to be quick to jump on Mokoenna's back. Can u please tell me where u saw the tackle?
If u haven't seen it, then how can u possibly judge??? for all we know it could have been an accidental collision, or maybe roque even went in heavy himself to get injured????
As for people saying the axe has done nothing for us since joining, do u not remember his role in keeping us in the prem when he joined? if it was not for his midfield displays that season, we may not even be in this league!
Or how about the top job he did last season, filling in when sav got injured, and helping us get into europe.
Ok he has not done the same this season, but some comments comming out on here today are laughable.

Fair enough he looks very nervous when he plays but i dont think midfield is his best position!
I like Mokoena on a personal level as a little lad i sat next to once brought a South African falg to one of the games and Mokoena gave him his shirt and boots.
Fair Play!

Fair enough he looks very nervous when he plays but i dont think midfield is his best position! Fair Play![/quote] Hi Monkey I have nothing what so ever against Mok at all.
I would say his best season would have been in the staving off relegation.
We all know he isn't the best of the best but he has always give 100% when he plays.
I've seen him outside Ewood & he was courteous & had time to chat with the supporters.
This is a classic case of 'cloak & dagger !!

according to radio lancs this morning santa is doubtfull which usually means no chance.
as for bents hughsie is in the morning rags saying he's not for sale and seemingly there are no 'get out' clauses in his contract.
so unless they get an unbelievable offer for him or bents makes it clear he wants to move then hopefully he will still be with us next season.
as for 'slagging off' some do some dont, everybody is entitled to an opinion, you obviously dont support BRFC so all i can say to that is you dont know what your missing.
to all true rovers fans out there.

All players who helped keep Rovers in the Premiership in the 2004-05 season (Mokoena arrived in Jan 2005). Stead, Savage, Todd, Flitcroft and Dickov all played a far greater part in keeping us up, but they and the others have all shared the same fate: they've been let go because they weren't good enough to help the club PROGRESS.
Last season we scraped into Europe via the Intertoto, and this season we're biting our nails again, because players of Mokoena's calibre aren't good enough to be a force in this division. That's not victimisation, that's observed fact. He's had his chance, now it's time to get shut, because if Vogel's half the player Hughes says he is then Mokoena won't get a look in.
And as for midfield not being his best position, since he's demonstrated that he's even worse at centre-back, then I'd have to go with the conspiracy theorists with regard to his tackle on Cruz. Only I think he must have done it so he can have go at partnering McCarthy up front, because that's the only position he hasn't proved himself to be inadequate in.

your right in a lot of respects bob.
hughsie year on year has improved the squad and mainly his 'first eleven'. he doesnt do it by wholesale changes he's been adding the quality bit by bit, he's brought in players and tried them (nondo, kuqi etc) and if they dont fit the bill lets them go. the gems he has obviously kept.
if hughsie has got a war chest this summer at the moment i cant see him getting much above 2 quality players, they would take the majority of the available money.
in hughsie we trust

As a blackburn supporter in SA, you should stop and think before you speak! How many say Mokoena's tackle? I did - it was one of those tackles he had to make and was a good one and the media reacted cos 1. they were team mates and two Roque is a more popular figure for his goal Scoring. In SA the papers have said how sad it was that he had to go off as they wanted to test themselves against Paraguay's best and Mokoena's tackle is half as bad as those mad by any other player including former Rovers Robbie Savage and even worse Lucas Neill - remember him breaking a few legs! [bold]So let's think - this is about two players giving it all for their team and I bet Roque doesn't blame Aaron and Aaron was sad to see him have to go off.[/bold] Not about who pays his wages!!!

as rovers supporters we are down because one of our best players got hurt the fact that it was one of our own players that did it is doubly frustrating.
players get injuries in training with tackles from teammates but that is usually kept under wraps the fact that this was a international match meant it was a higher profile.
the axe is a rovers player and while he is we want him to do well, there would be nothing better if on saturday he bossed the midfield set up goals and got great tackles in, and if hughsie wants to play him then as supporters we will support him.
as far as im concerned theres nothing personal, if i was in a pub and one of my mates bumped into me causing me to drop my pint, i think ide use a stronger term than calling him a 'knob'.

well what can i say Brett other than spot on, on reviewing my first post which prompted a gangster style reponse from woody woodpecker and friends...I firmly beleive that the next home game, should Axe Man play at any point these guys will be wanting to target him because of this incident, and perhaps it is about time they moved on to another player, giving the likes of McCatthy and Peds a rest - don't really wanna go into it anymore woody, BUT your last response to moi again is fruitless, u never seem to think before you answer and then rant about politics..go lay some eggs in other birds nest before raising non football issues, they just don't mix - Morst, ur a very sad man and somewhat of a repeat performer with your 'lets wave at the dingle' statement, crazy fool you are , i am a boring blackburn fan like you, so my friend keep the faith (sorry ossy!) Gem you may be right my dear about not being Ossy, I can fully understand that, but ditch the catch-phase...otherw
ise were gonna be having Roy Walker on ere next giving prizes out to you all....
