Injured driver cut from car after road smash

A MAN suffered spinal injuries following a collision between two cars in Prestwich last night.

The driver of a purple Vauxhall Corsa had to be cut free from his wrecked vehicle by firefighters. He was carried on a spinal board to a waiting ambulance and taken to North Manchester General Hospital for treatment.

The man's Corsa car had earlier been in a collision with a Ford Fiesta at Bury Old Road's junction with Nursery Road shortly before 11pm. The occupants of the Fiesta, three females, were treated at the scene by paramedics for minor cuts, bruising and shock. None of the women required hospital treatment.

Emergency services crews remained at the scene for an hour.
