A NEW book, featuring Edenfield through time, outlines its history with old and modern photographs.

It’s been put together by author John Simpson, who lives from Rossendale and is archivist for Helmshore Local History Society.

The book has 180 past and today photographs covering the last 100 years and tracing how the area has changed over the last century.

They also picture long-gone buildings, the changing face of transport and local residents in Ewood Bridge, Irwell Vale, Lumb, Stubbins, Chatterton, Strongstry and Turn.

The youngsters in our first photo were taking part in the traditional fancy dress competition as part of Edenfield’s Rose Queen Gala in the late 1940s.

Our second shot shows Edenfield Cricket Club’s first XI in 1963 when they were champions of the Bury and District League First Division. Can anyone name the players?

The club was first formed in 1902 as Edenfield United Cricket Club.

The church procession (third photo) is that of St Philip’s, Stubbins, for a Whitsuntide celebration in the fifties. It was led by the Rev L Boulton.

l Edenfield, Through Time, is published by Amberley Publishing and costs £14.99.
