IN 1941 a German aircraft dropped a land mine in Ramsbottom, causing extensive damage to homes, but happily no casualties.
We wonder if any residents can recollect the explosion, or have any stories of the Second World War.
The bomb hit properties in Bolton Road North and 12 years on, in 1953, the land was given over to Ramsbottom Urban District Council for a memorial garden.
But it seems funds were diverted and it's only now that residents have discovered what the land next to the chippy really is.
So, they have finally put a plaque in place commemorating those who died during the Second World War.
Stubbins Residents' Association unveiled the brass plaque on Remembrance Sunday, alongside the Royal British Legion, local clergy, and councillors.
