I WAS absolutely astonished to read about my Bolton South East MP’s visit to Gaza.
Bolton’s front line services are being shredded, thanks to the coalition government’s disregard for working people and a chinless local council.
This will mean many people in Yasmin Qureshi’s ward being affected, either by job losses or the level of care they receive if they are elderly, infirm or disabled.
It has also thrown our local fire service into uncertainty, with the shadow of the axe looming ominously.
With all this in mind, what is she doing on the West Bank?
She’s hardly covered herself in glory since being elected.
She was in the thick of it when the EDL came to town and branded the local police as racists after arresting some troublemaking anti-fascists.
She then got herself arrested for using a mobile phone whilst driving with no car insurance.
We go on to learn that this isn’t the first time she’s been charged with this kind of offence and her solicitor claims that she will now be “inconvenienced” by having to use public transport.
Mrs Qureshi’s predecessor was Dr Brian Iddon, a competent MP who served his ward effectively, with respect and care for his constituents.
I know where Dr Iddon would be right now with everything that is going on in Bolton South East and in the town overall.
It certainly wouldn’t be in the Middle East, looking at Palestinian/Israeli issues. It would be supporting trade unions in their fight against savage cuts, both locally and nationally.
It appears to me that Yasmin Qureshi’s agenda lies elsewhere.
