IT was great to see such a large and appreciative crowd at Heaton Cricket Club last Friday for the Chadwick Cup — the finale of the Bolton Ladies’ Rounders League.
The two regular protagonists over recent years — Darcy Lever A and Rupert Ladies A — were playing for the top honour and gave spectators an entertaining example of the game’s skills.
This was yet another reminder of the success of this sport among local females of all ages.
The league boasts hundreds of players, from primary school age to pensioners, with daughters following mothers and even grandmothers into dozens of teams.
The Government is constantly trying to engage young women in sport and encourage females of all ages to fitness.
A word to Mr Cameron, Bolton has been doing that for generations, and it’s an ongoing success story if you’re looking for a blueprint.
