A MEDICAL firm from Bolton has launched a new breakthrough product into the NHS to help prepare for the next outbreak of swine flu.
Vernacare, the infection-prevention products company, has received confirmation that its Tuffie 5 cleaning and disinfecting wipe is scientifically proven to eradicate the swine flu virus.
Independent laboratory tests have certified the new generation wipe effective against the H1N1 (swine flu) virus to EN14476 standard.
The announcement comes days after reports that suspected swine flu cases in the town are continuing to rise.
Meanwhile, Bolton’s swine flu vaccination programme has been launched.
Martyn Gibson, Vernacare product manager, said: “We sent the product to a leading US scientific laboratory and are confident the wipe will be at the forefront of strategies to combat swine flu in hospitals and throughout the NHS.”
The “wonder wipe” is also scientifically proven to destroy Norovirus, C. diff, and MRSA, which are the other three major problem infections in hospitals.
It is certified effective against spores, bacteria including mycobacteria, fungi including yeasts and viruses.
Tuffie 5 is a highly effective pre-impregnated wet-wipe, capable of cleaning and disinfecting all hard surfaces and equipment. It avoids the need to use two separate wipes, or nurse time spent preparing chlorine disinfecting solutions.
Industry tests show that its disinfecting properties continue to work after cleaning has taken place.
