Ready for home!

BARRY Town are expecting a bumper crowd for their opening Division 1 match this Saturday, when they play host to Taffs Well (2.30pm) on their return to Jenner Park after an absence of over a year.

The Dragons secured a creditable 1-1 draw on Tuesday evening at Division 2 side Merthyr Saints.

Fielding a number of trialists, Barry played some confident passing football.

Merthyr took the lead in the second half after a goalmouth scramble.

Barry Town equalised in the 76th minute when man of the match Leonne Jeanne took a snap free kick from outside the penalty box that took the Saints by surprise, the ball arching beyond the reach of the keeper to curl into the top right of the goal.

Jeanne, the former Arsenal and Cardiff City star, showed his class throughout the match, teasing the opponents with little tricks that delighted the crowd. The performance was very encouraging for the Dragons supporters. who can look forward to the new season with confidence.

Lee Piotrowski, Barry's battling midfielder, has been named as Club Captain of Barry Town this season.

Manager Gavin Price, the former Aston Villa and Charlton player, has acclaimed Lee's leadership qualities and indominitable fighting spirit as an inspiration to the Club.

Adrian Tucker, the Dragons goalkeeper, is on his way to full recovery after breaking his arm in last season's match at Neath and is hoping to be match-fit in a few weeks.

Leigh Vick, the cultured former Cardiff City midfielder, is also close to match fitness after missing much of last season through a groin injury.

l Barry Town kick off their season this Saturday, August 12 at Jenner Park at 2.30pm. Admission is £4 adults, £2 OAPs and students, and free for children under 16 if accompanied by an adult.
