TO THE POINT

LISTEN TO US: Residents objected to a proposed phone mast on St Hilda's Church, a listed building, in a public meeting. Yet nobody is listening to these people and commercial interests override interests of health and safety. The church wardens distributed a letter implying either the base be accepted or we face a street pole with higher radiation levels. This misleading scare tactic put off many people from attending the public meeting. No-one from the church appeared at the meeting. The Compro representative informed the meeting it would be paying rental in the region of £15,000 per annum to the church. The installation of mobile masts breaches the council's policies to improve the quality of life for residents. The council and church should listen to our concerns rather than follow the interests of commercial organisations ready for the planning committee's decision on February 3.
