APPLETON moved 27 points clear at the top of Cheshire Building Society Cricket Alliance Division Two after recovering from a poor start to win at Styal on Saturday.

The Lyons Lane outfit were reduced to 105 for 6 by some aggressive pace bowling but the youthful Lee Stoll made 82 not out and Pete Worrall smashed 48 to turn things around and guide Appleton to 263 for 7.

Oliver and Woods then did the damage to Styal's batting line-up, taking 3 for 63 and 3 for 42 respectively as the hosts were skittled out.

Appleton's seconds drew at home to their Styal counterparts after amassing 213 for 6 in their innings thank to 54 from Paul Dempster and 39 not out from Dave Darbyshire.

The third team were beaten by 79 runs by Port Sunlight.
